Quarterly Post!(*&)*^^%

I hope someone is still checking in occasionally. So much to talk about. First a couple of smiles, in addition to the picture of J. and Matt Dillon!

New Dinosaur Jr song Been There All the Time

Watt's version of BOC's "Burnin for You" (yeah thats nels cline on guitar)

I saw Robbie Fulks and Danny Barnes back in February at a neighborhood tavern Called Spencer's Stadium Tavern. Great little (capacity 60) place with some yummy vittles. Here's a picture :

I took old friend Tim Bruner as a birthday present. I've seen RF too many times to recount, but as usual, he was funny and played a great show. Danny Barnes was astounding. He's been getting into running his banjer through effects pedals and that's basically what he did during his solo set. His new record is called Electric Barnyard. Not sure when its out.

Speaking of Robbie, I ran across a folder on my computer that had a bunch of his My Day blogs from his website a few years ago. There is one where he is recounting a fashion spread he did for GQ mag. At the end of this, after too many martinis, he drives home listening to Cash's then new cd Solitary Man. Fulks is overtaken by the one-two punch of I See a Darkness and Mercy Seat. Read the whole story here. It'll make you laugh and make you cry.

A couple of weeks back, I attended a surprise 50th birthday party for friend Gary Koehl. It was held at the Slovenian National Home (think Legion Hall). Gary is pretty close to being Indy's Beatle Bob. Attends a ton of live shows and has an impeccable taste in music. Example: I ran into Gary in the terlit at a Jandek show! Think about the synchronicity of that. More on Jandek later. Anyhow, those who love Gary the most lined up a feast of live music for the afternoon. Gary was surprised, and we all had more fun than necessary on a Saturday afternoon. Here's the line up:

lowercase M - Evan & Grace

Hitchhike - Kyle & Lisa

Dale Lawrence (Vulgar Boatmen) - Dale did "Hearbeat" and many others.

Lovemeknots - all the favorites incuding "Perfect Birthday" and DJ's "True Love Will Find You in the End"

Phyllis - 20 minute version of "Wares off the Wagon"
